It appears that the “Xbox wireless adapter for Windows 10” is no longer sold by itself. It is only part of the XBOX controller and wireless adapter bundle.
I have a Windows 11 computer and when I first connected the XBOX usb wireless adapter it did not load a driver. In the Windows device manager, it showed a yellow triangle, which meant that it wasn’t working correctly. I ran Windows update, and it downloaded xbox.net something. After a reboot the adapter showed correctly in Device manager.
The XBOX usb adapter is very small, smaller than a regular usb memory stick. There is a connect button on the end of it, but THERE IS NO LIGHT at all. To connect the XBOX controller press the sync button on the controller and then press the button on the end of the wireless adapter. The adapter button is the entire “end ” of the adapter, opposite the USB connector part.
The Windows store has an “XBOX Accessories” app that allows you to remap XBOX buttons, but also update the firmware on the controller. The firmware can be updated either using a USB cable or wireless connection. (USB cable is separate. You can use either USB C to USB C or USB C to USB A depending on the ports your computer has)
**It’s unclear if an older firmware controller will automatically connect with the XBOX wireless adapter.
In conclusion
1. Download the XBOX accessories app from the Windows store.
2. Connect the XBOX wireless adapter, run a manual Windows update, reboot the computer when the update is complete.
3. Connect the controller by pressing the button on the adapter and controller, and it should sync correctly.
4. Verify that controller firmware is up to date. If not, update using wireless, a USB cable, or by connecting to an XBOX console (XBOX One or a Series console) and using the XBOX accessories app.

I had an older XB1 model of the controller that I had been using on Windows 10 for years, and had been using it on Windows 11 since it launched. Ordered this one to get my wife a controller to play some new games with, and wound up using the new one myself.
It detected and worked fine on her system, still running Windows 10. Connected to my system, the drivers detected for the wireless dongle but the controller would power up and then back down immediately rather than connecting to it. Since I knew the controller worked fine, and I could connect it to her system with problem, it seemed like a driver issue because of my old controller; I tried to reconnect my old controller, uninstall the drivers in device manager for the controller and old dongle, and then installed the new controller. Still no go, new controller powered down as soon as it powered on.
In order to get the controller to work, I had to set it up on her Windows 10 system and download the Microsoft Accessories App, and update the firmware on the controller. After that, I was able to move it to my Windows 11 system and it worked just fine.
There’s not really any excuse for a brand new Microsoft controller not having firmware that works with Windows 11 out of the box, and if I hadn’t had another system that the controller worked on where I could update the firmware I wouldn’t have had a choice but to return it.
After the infuriating setup, though, the controller has been fantastic. It’s nicer than the Xbox One-era controller it replaced, with a textured body, better triggers, and a better D-pad than the old controller I had. I’m getting anywhere from 12-15 hours of battery life out of the Panasonic Eneloop rechargables I’m using in the controller, so that’s pretty decent, too. The controller itself is excellent, it was definitely brand new out of the box (unlike some other reviews here, which I suspect were from marketplace sellers?), but be aware of the necessity of the Accessories App and firmware update depending on your system.

My gaming pc doesn’t have Bluetooth so I needed this and it does work, so it was worth the buy

looks solid works flawlessly
I’ve been more of a PS fan over Xbox but let me tell ya… this controller feels good on my hands, response time is quite nice and over all feels like a well built thing, initially I bought this controller because it came with the GENUINE Xbox to PC adapter but I have no regrets… awesome controller, I guess I’ll be getting the XBOX Elite controller soon, the 4 star rating is because the packaging sucks, yes I know that all the materials on the packaging is recycling material but so is the Elgato packaging and looks awesome and doesn’t arrive with an almost destroyed box to the user, cable extension is a nice to have and it’s also nice that it came with batteries included.

Been using this controller since my previous wired controller broke, the controller works well and feels nice. It’s a good basic controller as someone who doesn’t play too many games on controller.
