“It was easy to setup out of the box, I use it to plug in my desktop and my router.”
“Since I had turned off the audio alarm (a GREAT feature that some UPS systems don’t have) the only hint was the display on the device now indicated that I was running off battery and gave me an approximate time as to how long it would run my system.”
“While Powerchute personal edition hasn’t seen a major update for over a half decade, the software is more than adequate for simple usage, and provides details like estimated cost, and carbon emissions.”

Poor Batteries. Inadequate Customer Support.

Very simple to set up and use. Minus 1 star for high-pitched whining sound.

I bought this thing 5 years ago, and it’s still kicking. I hear it “click” to battery power a couple times a month, so I assume it’s doing it’s job.
I came to review it today because I was recommending it to a friend just now after my room was sporadically losing power during a thunderstorm. Gaming PC didn’t skip a beat, heard the UPS do it’s “click” to signify it was switching to battery and everything was chill. Stream kept working, music kept playing, screens stayed on. I’ve got some expensive hardware and one good surge could ruin it, so I’m glad I have this UPS. 5 years no issues it’s already paid for itself in my opinion.

Its a battery backup
There are a few choices when it comes to battery backups. I’ve used APC before, we use them exclusively at work to be a redundant fail safe before the standby generator kicks on (public safety critical infrastructure).
This item was packed VERY securely inside paper-crate type molded form. Unpacking and set up was very easy and straight forward. I’ve read a fair number of reviews that indicate the battery never activated upon power outage, well, the unit is shipped disconnected, you need to connect the positive wire to the positive terminal on the battery. It is a very simple and straightforward removal of cover and push connection. I wonder how many folks unbox and plug in without reading the complete instructions? Either way, I hooked everything up, let it sit charging for appx 24 hours and tested it by unplugging it from the AC outlet. Surprise! it worked as planned. Audile alarm indicating the unit was on battery back up (you can silence that), and a readout of how long I had remaining on the unit (I only had a laptop plugged in, so it was a while).
I’m at the point with my local power company that I’m putting battery back ups on all my sensitive electronics.. I’ll be buying more of these.
EDIT 1/11/23: After approximately 20 months of use in a very limited backup capacity (covering quick outages of 5 minutes or less maybe 50 times)- while getting My machine powered on for work this morning, this battery backup failed spectacularly. Hot burning electrical smell coupled with a loud popping sound and steady tone audible, and “F02” displayed on the front of the unit. Best part, the small electrical fire I could see in the top of the unit.
I learned a few things this morning:
1) it doesn’t take me any time to unplug the 4 things there were plugged into it
2) opening a window that quickly is a skill I didn’t know I had
3) I can navigate a small house fire with quick thinking and reactions.
4)The burning electrical smell hangs in the air for hours afterwards.
Approximately 20 months of flawless use. 5 minutes of hair raising disposal. This unit was used to provide backup power a desktop computer (workstation, not high end gaming by any means) a monitor, router, and cable modem.

Received the unit on December 6. My typical use of it was to turn it on in the morning and turn it off when I finish my work on my desktop which is receiving power from APC UPS. On December 31st, as usual, I pressed the power-on button but nothing happened. The unit was dead. I tried to revive it by apllying techniques suggested in the YouTube video clips; Nothing worked. I tried to call APC support but since Dec 31 it was closed. I was planning to return it for repair or to get a new unit. Also I knew that I cannot ship it with both terminals of the battery connected I was trying to disconnect the thick red wire from the battery terminal but for some reason it was not coming out although I applied considerable force. As a last try before giving up I tried to disconnect the red wire but this time I was successful It came off. I also disconnected 120V power and I press the power button and waited for a while, but this time, to my pleasant surprise, it beeped and the indicators on the display lighted up. It was alive again. I was happy! Aperantly, the firmware got stuck in an unknown state. I am writing this comment in case you run into a similar situation. If you read this comment you can fix the problem. Also I suggest that APC should update the firmware and develope some means to update the firmware without shipping the unit back to the factory. I like the APC UPS but because of this hiccup I gave 4 out of 5.

unit would not turn on after 9 months had to return and replace it. on/off is software controlled, not the switch. replacement seems fine. replaced the lead acid batteries wit LiPo4 made in the US. by bienno power. chinese ones have a25% failure rate the new ones from California have twice the run time and the built in battery management system protects the batteries. the new batteries are NOT lithium ion! just make sure you know what you are doing when doing anything involving electricity. SAFETY FIRST!

Affordable UPS that works (and so far keeps working)

Does the job
We lose electricity often, just one of the things you deal with living outside of cities, especially during heavy snowfall. The lengthy outages aren’t really the issue, it’s the hours preceeding an outage, when electricity flickers off and back on repeatedly. The flicker is mere seconds but we then have to wait for our router to reboot, and without internet we have zero connection, not even cell phones. Repeatedly being booted from Zoom calls for work is difficult, especially knowing the electricity is working, it’s just the router reboot that takes time before I can reconnect. I bought the UPS hoping to avoid the router reboot, but unless I configured it incorrectly, I do still deal with the reboot wait. However, during a lengthy outage, once the router reboots, it is powered by the UPS, and for that reason, I’d say the UPS does its job.

Awesome UPS for ANY computer worth over 1 grand

Excellent UPS
I installed it in five minutes. It is a UPS for the gas based, on demand boiler we use to heat water.

I’ve been using APC UPS device for many years. They do seem to fail a lot, but they are on 24/7. My main concern about this unit is that it seems to be producing a lot of ozone. Seems to work fine, but I can smell ozone where I should NOT be smelling ozone…

Works very well
This product has been working wonderfully for the time I have had it. As I am in the process of converting an older house over to circuit breakers from bus fuses, I was concerned with energy spikes and outages damaging my equipment. The display and setup on this device is extremely easy but not full proof so make sure you follow the directions to set this up correctly. The fact that the replacement battery packs are available online is a nice feature. So far the most important part of this device and why its important to understand my house being on fuses, are energy spikes. This thing has regulated such spikes numberous times in that a line designed for 124 volts during a storm or heavy winds can cause spikes as high as 200 volts is not only damaging to all electronic but heavily dangerous if not controlled.
I know some are not fans of the brand but for me personally I have no issues with this device at all and probably will get another backup of the same style to dedicate to the entertainment center. The only issue I have with this is the coaxial cable leads are very close to the top receptacles which is an issue if you have several blocky plugs to plug in. I do not even bother with the coaxial as I do not utilize cable so it would be nice if I could get a model like this but minus the coax connections or at least make it modular so that the leads can be easily removed without performing tech surgery.
***Update… My first one(APC BR1350MS) is running so well that I decided to buy a second one for a different room with an expensive set of electronics in it. I highly recommend this model if you want the top line for use in a home with older wiring as it has constantly detected and help level off voltage spikes that are normal for fused homes. I am upgrading to circuit breakers but until then I will have all my expensive electronics on one of these. If you do want to save a little money you can downgrade to the BN1375M2 model for less money but you will not have the full Sine wave protection as the cheaper model just emulates this function to save money.
